Barney's Coffeeshop Amsterdam is a world-famous Dutch weed store or cannabis dispensary. This legendary coffee shop in Amsterdam has gained a lot of fame in recent decades by supplying Amsterdam with top quality weed and hash, but perhaps even more so for their beloved cannabis seeds that are grown all over the world. Is this coffee shop really worthy of its legendary status, or is it all pure marketing nonsense? A big plus of Barney's Coffeeshop is its location: it is close to the central station, but not right in the hard-to-reach city center. So it is located in a slightly quieter street of Amsterdam, yet it is within walking distance of all the interesting things in the center. You can pass Barney's before, during, or after a day in Amsterdam without having to take a big detour, and the shop is easy to find. Upon entering, the atmosphere feels warm and relaxed: it is a beautiful coffee shop with a nice interior. Even during corona (15-12-2021) there were no facemasks to be seen inside and you could smoke a joint indoors as usual. Is this a policy of Barneys Farm, or of the City of Amsterdam? Who knows! The fact is that nothing was forced on us here regarding the proven ineffective measures.
The coffeeshop is easily accessible by foot from Central Station (Amsterdam Central) and is about a 5-minute walk away, but Barneys Coffeeshop is also easily accessible by car. Parking is possible at the IJdock parking garage for €3.60 per hour, which is a 5-10 minute walk away. This concerns the Barneys branch at Haarlemmerstraat 102, 1013 EW Amsterdam.
The interior
Barney's Coffeeshop in Amsterdam is not designed as a takeaway coffee shop. That's not to say you can't buy and leave, but there are plenty of seats available where you can relax and smoke a joint with a cup of tea or coffee. The interior design is very cozy and warm, so you immediately feel welcome. In some coffeeshops you prefer to leave and go outside as soon as possible, but Barneys in Amsterdam certainly doesn't give us that feeling. A great place to relax for a while. Various souvenirs such as caps and clothing are also available here. We did not pay attention to whether you can also use vaporizers in this coffee shop (such as the Volcano in Greenhouse, for example).
Barney's Coffeeshop Amsterdam - the weed, worth the price?
We bought two strains to try: Liberty Haze and Watermelon Zkittlez, as recommended to us by the budtender.
To check the reliability of Barney's Coffeeshop, weighed all the bags, and everything was neatly exactly 1 gram. One of the strains, the Liberty Haze, had some more stems in the bud, but for this we got 1.14 grams instead of 1.0 – very nice, exactly how it should be. It was weighed up by a very friendly budtender who happily let us see and smell the containers, and to give good advice. In other words: you can calmly make a good and well-considered choice. The budtender does not stare you out of the coffeeshop, but instead is happy to give advice and help you make a good choice.
But what did the weed taste like, and what was the effect? Together with a few people, we tested the weed varieties from Barneys, in order to form a good picture of the taste and quality. We all agreed: both strains tasted great, but the Liberty Haze was a lot nicer to smoke than the Watermelon Zkittlez. Both in a joint with tobacco and pure in a bong. As can be seen in the pictures above, both strains looked nice and frosty, and there was not much to complain about in terms of humidity and texture. Just a nice weed with an (especially with the Liberty Haze) attractive terpene profile, which certainly shows that the genetics come from a good quality / experienced breeder.
Weed seeds from Barneys Farm are also for sale in this coffeeshop in Amsterdam, but why would you buy them if you get free seeds with every Bongify order? The Barneys Farm seed menu features the classic and world famous cannabis strains such as Barneys Cookies Kush, Barneys dosido 33, Barneys Do Si Dos Auto, Barneys Farm Cheese, Dr Grinspoon, Gorilla Glue, Gorilla Zkittlez, G13 Haze, Glue Gelato, Lemon Haze, Liberty Haze, Blue Sunset Sherbert, Bubba Kush, Tangerine Dream, Laughing Buddha, Ayahuasca Purple, etc. The Barneys Farm genetics are an absolute favorite for many growers.
So, is Barneys Farm good? We say yes!
