Benidorm is one of the most popular places among British, Dutch and German tourists in Spain. It's a vibrant and beautiful place full of bars, restaurants, and clubs, which makes it very attractive to anyone who loves a holiday that consists of partying, alcohol, and... weed, of course! But if you're a stoner in Benidorm looking for some marijuana, where should you go? That's what this blog is all about. Is weed legal in Spain?

Weed is not legal in Spain, but it has been decriminalized. The situation is somewhat similar to that in the Netherlands: you can (sort of) buy weed legally, and the police won't raid your house for smoking a joint or growing some cannabis for personal consumption, but technically it is still illegal. So in order to avoid trouble with the law, there are some things to keep in mind. First of all: our information may be outdated or not fully correct, so be sure to ask the Spanish authorities if you have any specific questions. But here are some important do's and don't's for smoking weed in Benidorm:

If you buy any weed in Spain, never try to take it back home with you to your home country. This is smuggling/trafficking, and is highly illegal.
Don't smoke in public, especially not in busy places. It's best to smoke at home, because on private property the police won't harass you for smoking weed or hash.
If you're afraid of the police searching you for marijuana, put it in your underwear. They are not allowed to search inside your underwear.

Can you legally buy marijuana in Spain?

As we said in the previous paragraph, weed is technically still illegal in Spain. However, it is decriminalized, so there are plenty of options to sort-of-legally buy some cannabis on your holiday.

CBD shops are the most legal and easiest option. These shops have some very nice weed, hash, pre-rolled joints, CBD vapes (disposable vapes), oils, tinctures, and basically any kind of cannabis product you can possibly imagine. However, these products contain a maximum of 0.2% THC, the active ingrediënt (cannabinoid) that gets you high - whereas most legal weed contains at least 5 to 10 percent THC. So, is this fake weed, then? Is it like drinking alcohol-free beer? Well, no! Remember that cannabis contains about 90 different cannabinoids or active ingredients, of which THC is only one (even though it is the most important one for getting you high). So, there are still plenty of cannabinoids in the so-called "CBD weed" that have some kind of influence on your body. Especially for the people who have trouble sleeping, are feeling down or stressed out because of the lack of smoking weed, these legal CBD flowers or CBD hash can be a fantastic solution. It doesn't get you high like regular weed, but it is definitely capable of making you sleep better, making you much more relaxed, increasing your appetite, regulating blood sugar, relieving pain, and almost every other reason for stoners to smoke. Cannabis social clubs are the second best way to buy weed in Benidorm (or in Spain in general, even though not every city has these clubs). They are very similar to a regular American dispensary or a Dutch coffee shop. In other words, these are weed shops that sell REAL weed (with THC!). There are a few drawbacks to cannabis social clubs, of which the most important are these two: first, you'll need to become a member to be able to enter the club. This often costs between 10 and 25 euros. Second, they are often somewhat hidden, because technically, these are not public places.

There is (at least) one so-called "Cannabis Social Club" in Benidorm. Here you can buy REAL weed (with THC), but you need to become a member, which costs money.

Dealers (street weed): like every place in the world where there are tourists, you can also find (real) weed (with THC) on the streets of Benidorm. The best places to look are near the beach, in clubs, or by asking locals (for example the people working in bars and restaurants, or even taxi drivers). The prices are usually quite low, but they might try to sell the weed for higher prices to clueless tourists. Moreover, when buying (illegal) marijuana on the streets of Benidorm they might simply sell you some CBD-weed from one of the legal stores, or contaminated stuff, so be aware!

What is the best weed shop in Benidorm?

There are two really great CBD shops with a great variety of new and exciting products, and many different CBD weed flowers, CBD hash, and concentrates. We would recommend going to either Crippy Trip CBD shop or Natura CBD Store (scroll down for their locations and pictures). There's also a Flower Farm shop that sells good quality CBD flowers, hash, oils, and some other products. This is a chain of stores that can also be found in Madrid and other Spanish cities.

If you're only looking for paraphernalia such as weed pipes, rolling papers, and tips (or filters), bongs, or hookah, then you can also go to one of the Tabacos stores.
